BIOGRAPHY
Composer, arranger, conductor, and violinist Krzesimir Dębski studied composition and conducting at the Paderewski Academy of Music, Poznań. An accomplished jazz violinist, he founded the group String Connection in 1982, with which he has toured extensively in Europe and the United States since. As a composer, he writes for both symphonic and chamber orchestra, but he also has an opera to his credit, and is heavily involved in composing soundtracks; these include the extremely successful Polish film With Fire And Sword (1999). Dębski won several composition prizes, including a Fryderyk Award in Poland and the Philip Prize, awarded by the International Film Music Academy. He conducted the orchestra in concerts of José Carreras, Ewa Malas-Godlewska, Nigel Kennedy, and many more. As a deputy chairman, he is a member of the board of the Polish Association of Contemporary Music.
EUROVISION SONG CONTEST
Krzesimir Dębski was the conductor of the 1997 Polish entry in the Eurovision Song Contest, ‘Ale jestem’, performed by Anna-Maria Jopek. The orchestration to the song was written by its composer, Tomasz Lewandowski. Despite being one of the most sophisticated entries in that year’s contest, ‘Ale jestem’ could not make it into the top ten, finished eleventh. Dębski was one of two Polish classical musicians to take part in the contest, as Szymon Kuran led the orchestra for the Icelandic entry.
