BIOGRAPHY

Joan Amils i Pérez hailed from Catalonia and pursued music studies with Josep Caminals, Alicia de Larrocha, and Frank Marshall as his teachers. As a concert pianist, he performed in Japan, Thailand, South Africa, Canada, the United States, and in many European countries. Orchestras such as the Christophorus Orchestra of Stuttgart and the Chamber Orchestra of Moldova accompanied him. He founded the Trio Ludwig. Being a music teacher by profession, he set up an annual summer music course taking place in his hometown of Ripoll. He also regularly worked in jazz and light music as a conductor and arranger.

EUROVISION SONG CONTEST

Joan Amils arranged and conducted the 1982 Swiss entry to the Eurovision Song Contest, ‘Amour on t’aime’, which – although sung in French – has the feel of a German sing-along. It was penned by Alain Morisod and Pierre Alain and interpreted by Arlette Zola. The song finished third in the festival held in Harrogate behind West Germany (Nicole, ‘Ein bisschen Frieden’) and Israel (Avi Toledano, ‘Hora’).
