BIOGRAPHY

Pianist Vittorio Cosma started his career in music in 1985 with the band Volpi Volanti. In 1988-89, he was a member of the progressive rock group Premiata Forneria Marconi. In the early 1990s, he established himself as a composer, arranger, and producer; Cosma worked with Fiorella Mannoia, Elio e Le Storie Tese, Eugenio Finardi, and Fabrizio De André. Making his debut in 1990, he appeared numerous times as a conductor in the San Remo Festival

Away from pop music, Cosma worked on compositions by Miles Davis with jazz greats such as Miroslav Vitouš, Jorge Ben, and Peter Erskine. In 1995, a film for which he wrote the soundtrack, ‘Colpo di luna’, was awarded with a prize at the Berlin Film Festival. One year later, Cosma won the Sacher Prize for his music to a short film. Besides his work as a producer and soundtrack composer, he also writes music for advertisements and television programmes. He owns the Music Production Studio in Milan.

EUROVISION SONG CONTEST

Vittorio Cosma arranged and conducted Enrico Ruggeri’s 1993 San Remo winner ‘Mistero’. Subsequently, Ruggeri was invited by RAI to be the Italian representative at the Eurovision Song Contest of that same year, held in Millstreet (Ireland). Ruggeri composed the rock ballad ‘Sole d’Europa’ and, again, Cosma was his conductor. This Italian entry finished twelfth.
