BIOGRAPHY
Garo Mafyan is a composer and arranger of Armenian-Turkish descent; he studied harmony at the conservatory and learnt to play the organ and piano. From the 1980s onwards, he has written songs and orchestrations for virtually all important Turkish pop artists, such as Ayda Pekkan, Sezen Aksu, Nilüfer, Sertab Erener, Ilhan Irem, Reyhan Karaca, and Ali Kocatepe. He wrote music for TV programmes as well as the soundtrack of the motion picture Dunyayi kurtaran adamin oglu (2006).
EUROVISION SONG CONTEST
Garo Mafyan can be considered a genuine Eurovision veteran, having conducted an impressive 24 entries in the Turkish preselection between 1981 and 1995. Three of these made it to the international final: ‘Hani?’, sung by Neço in 1982, ‘Didai didai dai (Aşık oldum)’, sung by M.F.Ö. in 1985, and ‘Şarkım sevgi üstüne’, sung by Seyyal Taner & Lokomotif in 1987. Mafyan also wrote the arrangements to the 1982 and 1987 efforts.
