BIOGRAPHY

Selçuk Başar is one of the founding members of one of Turkey’s first pop groups, the Istanbul Gelişim Orkestrası. Other members included Neco, Uğur Başar, Atilla Şereftuğ, Ayda Pekkan, Onno Tunç, Garo Mafyan, and Atilla Özdemiroğlu. This band annex orchestra still exists today. As a composer, Başar wrote songs for Izel Çeliköz, Nilüfer, and Neco, and participated in many Turkish Eurovision pre-selections.

EUROVISION SONG CONTEST

Selçuk Başar composed, arranged, and conducted the 1984 Turkish entry, ‘Halay, sung by the quartet Beş Yıl Önce, On Yıl Sonra. The lyrics were written by Ülkü Aker. This Turkish song finished twelfth in a field of nineteen participating entries.
