BIOGRAPHY

Atilla Özdemiroğlu learnt to play the violin, flute, vibraphone, double bass, and trombone. After graduation from university, he moved to Istanbul in 1966, where he joined several pop bands, including Durul Gence 5. From the 1970s onwards, he made his mark as a composer, writing songs for the most popular Turkish pop acts, including Nilüfer, Kayahan, and Sezen Aksu. Özdemiroğlu specialised in composing film scores, for which he won five Golden Orange Awards and two Golden Boll Awards.

EUROVISION SONG CONTEST

In total, between 1975 and 1983, Özdemiroğlu wrote five songs for the Turkish Eurovision preselection, amongst which the winner in 1980: ‘Pet'r oil’, which was performed by Ayda Pekkan. Özdemiroğlu wrote the orchestration in collaboration with Karl Heinz Schäfer and conducted this Turkish entry in the international final, held in The Hague. ‘Pet'r oil’ finished 15th in a field of 19 competing entries.
