BIOGRAPHY

Buğra Uğur studied the piano as well as harmony and composition at the Istanbul Conservatoire between 1965 and 1977. He composed songs for many artists, including Nilüfer and Zuhal Olcay. He also wrote music for theatre, film, and advertisement campaigns.

EUROVISION SONG CONTEST

In 1983, Uğur’s composition ‘Opera’ (lyrics by Aysel Gürel) won the Turkish final, performed by Cetin Alp & Short Wave. Uğur wrote the arrangement and conducted the orchestra. He accompanied Alp and his accompanying group to the international Eurovision Song Contest in Munich. The Turkish group tried their best on the choreography, according to ironic English commentator Terry Wogan in ‘a mightily understated performance’, but could not avoid the dreaded ‘nil points’ and a last place.
